Gregory Dimitri Gadson (born February 19th 1966) was an American actor and motivational speaker who retired as a colonel of the United States Army and former commander of the U.S. Army Fort Belvoir garrison. Gadson has also been identified as a bilateral above the knee amputee. He was as a member of the U.S. Army for more than 20 years as an artillery field officer. He was also as an active soldier in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Joint Forge, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Gadson made his debut as an actor in Battleship in 2012, an American science fiction film about naval warfare, in the role of Lieutenant Colonel Mick Canales, playing a veteran of the war who finds his enthusiasm for fighting when Oahu is under threat from some alien invasion. The director Peter Berg, having seen reports about Gadson was inspired to cast him in the role of an officer in the army trying to come back from losing his legs.
The night of May 7th 2007 when he returned from a memorial ceremony for two soldiers of his brigade both legs and wounded his left arm due to the blast from a roadside near Baghdad. He was one of the first soldiers to utilize a new generation powered prosthetic knee that incorporates technology that allows for amputees walk more confidently and with more natural walking.
