DataFile Joins the SHIEC Group Purchasing Program to Provide Healthcare Data Services to Membership

Publish date: 2024-07-22

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- DataFile Technologies announced today it is joining the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC) group purchasing program to provide healthcare data services via the DataFile Velocity Exchange. In response to a recent RFI, DataFile was one of three solution providers chosen to supply data healthcare exchange services. SHIEC member organizations will be able to leverage DataFile's Velocity Exchange for new use cases such as life insurance, legal and short/long-term disability claims. DataFile is a Strategic Business and Technology (SB&T) Partner to SHIEC, which serves more than 70 local, regional and national health information exchanges (HIEs) through advocacy, education and business support for the sustainability of HIEs.

SHIEC members share a global purpose of advancing healthcare interoperability while maintaining a local presence and individual autonomy. Some HIEs are funded through state and local budgets while others are supported financially by the healthcare provider members of their exchange. In both cases, HIEs must find ways to facilitate the seamless exchange of healthcare data while constantly adding more value to its healthcare provider members.

"DataFile recognizes that Health Information Exchanges serve as such a valuable part of the healthcare data ecosystem," said Janine Akers, Chief Executive Officer at DataFile. "They were some of the earliest pioneers of aggregating healthcare data and creating a pathway for interoperability. We're proud to work with SHIEC and its member organizations as they expand their records use cases. We're also excited to provide financial support to their members for infrastructure, data growth and support for data access to their communities."

In an effort to satisfy the growing appetite for healthcare data as well as the financial needs of HIE members and their providers, SHIEC sought to vet solutions like Velocity Exchange from DataFile for its Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO) - addressing use cases that could drive additional revenue to its members and further demonstrating compliance with data exchange standards as set forth by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). (See Information blocking.) DataFile was able to demonstrate to SHIEC that Velocity Exchange could provide HIEs with a streamlined connection to healthcare data requestors to both bring relief from manual records processing for their provider members and deliver financial benefit to providers and HIEs in support of their business operations.

Velocity Exchange creates a direct connection between requestors who need healthcare data and the HIEs that have patient medical records. The value of the connectivity Velocity Exchange provides can be seen in shorter cycle times, measured in the time it takes to receive records, and fewer burdens to healthcare providers, e.g. reduced overhead expenses for medical records, fewer status check calls, staff turnover and burnout. Velocity Exchange delivers rich, actionable patient chart data from hundreds of thousands of providers in a fraction of the time of traditional release of information where records requests are sent directly to the healthcare provider.

SHIEC will be holding an informational webinar about these new data exchange services for their HIE members on April 25, 2019, at 12pm Eastern.
