AltaPointe Health's Annual Meeting Showcases Move to Whole-Person Care and Year of Phenomenal Growth
MOBILE, Ala., April 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Kevin Scalia was the keynote speaker at AltaPointe's annual meeting on March 14 in Mobile.
"Netsmart has 20,000 clients, and only five of them would be able to make the kind of presentation your CEO just made," Scalia said. "The things you are doing at AltaPointe, other places are only dreaming about -- or not even dreaming yet."
Netsmart is a U.S.-based company that develops and sells health information technology, including electronic health records.
Scalia predicted that other behavioral health agencies would also incorporate primary healthcare and a move towards value-based care so that they can effectively treat patients' physical and mental health needs in a cost-effective manner.
"This is where we see the future going, and AltaPointe is all over this," Scalia said.
During the meeting, AltaPointe CEO, Tuerk Schlesinger told board members and guests that the agency experienced "phenomenal growth" in 2018, including the launch of its primary care arm, Accordia Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-A-Like. It is located in the heart of Bayou La Batre and provides affordable primary care services to residents of South Mobile County.
Opportunities to provide telehealth increased across AltaPointe's seven-county service area. Clinicians provided more than 8,000 services in 2018. School-based therapy expanded to AltaPointe's Sylacauga region, which serves Clay, Randolph, Talladega, and Coosa counties.
"It was a successful year," Schlesinger said. "We have done a lot of exciting things that will help us transition to fully-integrated primary and behavioral healthcare which allows us to take care of the whole person. We understand that if we start managing patients whole health, we are going to have better outcomes."
AltaPointe provided more than 1.6 million services and served 34,004 individuals in 2018. Schlesinger attributes the successful year to dedicated staff such as John Conrad, assistant director BayView Professional Associates; Melissa Smilie, coordinator adult outpatient services; Terry Shattuck, RN, adult residential services; Lisa Miller, accounts receivable specialist; Stephanie Pope, school-based therapist. These five staff members were recognized during the annual meeting for their display of exceptional patient care. All five were named AltaPointe Stars of the Year, while Stephanie Pope received the Shining Star award.
